The latest release from Rockstar due out on the 29th of April is the much awaited Grand Theft Auto 4 or otherwise referred to as Grand Theft Auto IV, GTA 4, GTA4 and GTA IV (certificate 18). Once again this promises to be a smash available on the upto date Gaming Consoles Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

GTA4

Special Edition

The Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition package is soon available from major stockists for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. It will contain the following:

A customized metal safe deposit box.
A Rockstar keychain for the safe deposit box keys.
A limited edition Rockstar duffel bag.
Production artwork in the Grand Theft Auto IV Art Book.

A specially packaged version of the game:
The PlayStation 3 version has Lola with a lolipop on the cardboard box sleeve.
The Xbox 360 version has the main character, Niko Bellic, on the cardboard sleeve with fingerless gloves on.

GTA 4 Release date

Rockstar Games initially going to release GTA 4 on the original 16 October 2007 release date.
However, it was later suggested that Take-Two Interactive software may choose to delay the release of the game in order to boost its success for 2008, thus avoiding strong competition the release of other highly anticipated titles. Although the official statement was "due to additional development time required to complete the title".

So release date for GTA4 is and currently stands at the 29th of April.

GTA 4

The Plot

Serbian born Niko Bellic , aged between 28 and 32 years of age has come to Liberty City to pursue the "American Dream". Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin Roman. Roman kept in touch with Niko and had expressed his happiness about living in Liberty City and was living a fabulous life, with a mansion, women, hot tubs and sports cars. However it turns out Roman's claims were all to be lies to hide his own failures. In reality he only owns a small taxi business, which he wants Niko to work for.

At first Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City, and as a result plays a a regular part in the first stages of the game. Niko is a tough, rough and ready type character, whereas Roman is friendly and non aggressive.

Nikos cousin Roman in Grand Theft Auto 4 is heavily in debt and a lot of people are after him, including mobsters and gangsters. He desperately needs Niko's help and wiley ways, hence the reason he lied to Niko in the first place to get him to travel to Liberty City.

Niko and Roman are constantly bickering, as Niko has a good idea whats going on. It is later revealed that one of the reasons Niko, being an ex-soldier, goes to Liberty City, is to track down the man who betrayed his old army unit.

There are two possible endings to this GTA 4 story, all of which feature different missions depending on which choice the player makes at a certain points in the game. SO the story and outcome of Niko Grand Theft auto Four in the Liberty City is upto you!

Where it takes Place

Grand Theft Auto IV is situated in a redesigned Liberty City, which consists of four boroughs, these boroughs are based on the four boroughs of New York City.
The Boroughs given in Grand Theft Auto IV, have the following equivalents:-

Broker is Brooklyn
Queens is Dukes
The Bronx is Bohan
Manhattan is Algonquin

Just across the way from the City is the independant state of Alderney, which is the equivalent of New Jersey and named after the channel Island of the same name.

In the early stages of the game the city's bridges are locked down due to a terrorist threat. Eventually however the armed police blockades are lifted and the player is able to lead Niko to cross the Broker, Algonquin, and Northwood Heights bridges and explore the rest of the city.

The total area of the map in GTA4 is smaller than San Andreas, but the inclusion of the new Liberty City is far more detailed and overall is the the largest individual city in the Grand Theft Auto series.

To give you an idea to get from one side of the city to the other could take you upto an hour, according to one (Games Magazine Playstation 2 UK edition). Even with all this in mind The creators of this amazing game state there are no "dead spots" or "irrelevant space" within Liberty Space unlike what you may have experienced in San Andreas.

The new Liberty City in GTA 4 is not an exact block by lock replica, but it does have a striking resemblance to New York City. It is set in 2006 or 2007. The statue of Liberty is in the game and you can go to it by swimming or by boat.

Even the UK gets a Mention

Within the GTA4 game there are several real life landmarks that exist within Liberty City. Districts such as "Hove Beach", which is based on sunny old Brighton Beach here in the UK.

Also mentioned in GTA four is Firefly Island base don Coney Island. Central park is addressed as Middle Park/ The statue of happiness as we all know is the statue of Liberty. When you plat the game, gamers will notice instead of a torch the statute is actually holding Styrofoam coffee cup.

Also to look out for:-

"Star Junction" is Times Square;"BOABO" (Beneath the Offramp of the Algonquin Bridge Overpass) is DUMBO; the "Thornton Building" is the Flatiron Building; and "Twitchins" is Brooklyn's Domino Sugar Factory; the "GetaLife" building is the MetLife Building; the "Booth Tunnel" is the Lincoln Tunnel (named after Abraham Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth) and the "Rotterdam Tower" is the game's replica of the Empire State Building. A replica of the Chrysler Building is also featured to make up Liberty City.

Overview

The game GTA IV has a similar trend to other games in the series. The main gameplay consists of a third person shooter and driving stages.

Niko (the main character controlled by the gamer) has the ability of capable of walking, running, swimming, climbing and jumping, as well as utilising weapons and basic hand to hand combat whiclst on foot. Players can drive a large variety of vehicles, including automobiles, boats, helicopters, and motorcycles.

The open, non-linear environment allows players to explore and choose how they wish to play the game creating a uniqe experinece everytime you upload and play GTA 4 as you may complete and undertake missions at your own free will. However, creating havoc can attract unwanted and potentially fatal attention from the police, increasing a more threatening response as you become more wanted and deeepen your criminal activities. Police will handle "minor" infractions (attacking people, pointing guns at people, stealing cars, killing a few people, etc.), whereas SWAT teams, the FBI, and the military respond to higher wanted levels.

Blending Missions

By casting our minds back to previous Grand Theft Auto titles they have been traditionally heavily mission based, although this didn't effect the great gaming ability the GTA4 series had to offer to gamers, but now with GTA 4 the freedom to roam about keeping away from necessary missions to progress on to the next level will be reduced and playing outside missions will now be deemed more relevant.

A comment made by a Rock star Spokesperson states :-

"We're really trying to blur the line between on mission and off-mission. So storyline, and what you do outside , and how those two things influence each other."

The player can also partake in a variety of optional side missions which may last over a duration of several days in the land of Liberty City.
